To write this poem, I asked myself the question "What if". Then I added a few exaggerations. I hope it makes you smile.
It began as a night like any other
Watching TV with sister and brother.
Watching show after show until
The picture tube went dark and still.
Like statues we just sat and stared
Except for John who looked scared
Then his face turned a shade of ghastly blue
“Without TV what will we do?”
Then sister Sue’s face turned green
The likes of it I’ve never seen.
Minutes before she had laughed out loud
Now gloom draped her like a cloud.
“But who will teach us how to think,
With television on the blink!
Who’ll entertain us we need to know!
Who’ll help shape our minds to grow?”
“Why don’t we play a game or two?”
I said while glancing at my shoe.
Then Sue and John stared hard at me
“You mean like a regular family.”
I nodded twice before I could blink,
Then added to that quick as a wink.
“Isn’t that how kids once had played
Before TV took that away.”
Then a look of hope came to their eyes
I admit it came as quit a surprise.
“We do have a lot of toys and games
Like, clue and scrabble and other names.”
The rest of the night we played together
My sister Sue and John my brother.
Laughing until our sides were split
Not minding that the TV quit.
"When the SOUL is neglected, it doesn't just go away, it appears systematically in obsessions, addictions, violence and loss of Meaning." -Thomas Moore-

Troubles and Peace
When we trust in Jesus many of life's troubles are easier to bare. Here's a poem that I hope will help put your troubles in perspective. Which we all have plenty of.
Sometimes we think the world is wrong
there's so much talk of strife.
It seems that troubles never leave
it consumes our daily life.
Each morning when the sun is rising
we waken from our sleep.
After catching up on all the news,
we run about like sheep.
We have places to go and schedules to keep
of this we can't deny.
There's no time to marvel of mysteries
or gaze into the sky.
But if we breathe words of praise to God,
He'll take our worries away.
And we thank Him for blessings that we have
we'll have a wonderful day.
Sometimes we think the world is wrong
there's so much talk of strife.
It seems that troubles never leave
it consumes our daily life.
Each morning when the sun is rising
we waken from our sleep.
After catching up on all the news,
we run about like sheep.
We have places to go and schedules to keep
of this we can't deny.
There's no time to marvel of mysteries
or gaze into the sky.
But if we breathe words of praise to God,
He'll take our worries away.
And we thank Him for blessings that we have
we'll have a wonderful day.

THE BEST SERMON
Have you ever wondered how you can make a difference in the world. Often it's not what we preach but, how we live that teaches the best. So, what are you going to do about it?
If I could live my life like a sermon
For people to see and hear
My actions would be, the strongest voice
To make the message clear.
And if my life looked like a sermon
Or a lighthouse every day
God’s love could freely shine through me
And help someone find the way.
And if I lived a life that was true
Others around could see
God’s love through the pages of my life
By seeing Christ through me.
If I could live my life like a sermon
For people to see and hear
My actions would be, the strongest voice
To make the message clear.
And if my life looked like a sermon
Or a lighthouse every day
God’s love could freely shine through me
And help someone find the way.
And if I lived a life that was true
Others around could see
God’s love through the pages of my life
By seeing Christ through me.

Give Thanks
Need a lift. A favorite Christian poet of mine is Helen Steiner Rice. Though she is no longer with us, her words will continue to bless and encourage us. Be encouraged with this lovely thought.
Give thanks for the blessings
that daily is ours—
The warmth of the sun,
the fragrance of flowers,
For the joy of enjoying
and the fullness of living
Are found in the heart
that is filled with thanksgiving.

Think and Speak like David
One of the most beautiful verses in the Bible is found in the book of Psalms. King David, who wrote this, was called a man after God's own heart. It's not hard to see why. May this prayer be yours, too.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19: 14

In Honor of Birds
Birds are my most favorite living things. Think of what you enjoy most and why. Then write it down before you forget. It might be your best poem yet.
Without the melody and song
Of the birds that fly
Our days would be quiet, dull,
Lifeless and long
With nothing to cheer us
Or to bring hope
Of a better day.
And how bare the sky.
Who would greet the morning—
Who would sing all day—
If their music was stilled
And our feathery friends no longer
Flitted across our pathway.
Without the melody and song
Of the birds that fly
Our days would be quiet, dull,
Lifeless and long
With nothing to cheer us
Or to bring hope
Of a better day.
And how bare the sky.
Who would greet the morning—
Who would sing all day—
If their music was stilled
And our feathery friends no longer
Flitted across our pathway.

My Father's Hands
It's Father's day this weekend. Show your dad how special he is. Remember-if it wasn't for him you wouldn't be who you are today. If you are a dad have a 'Happy Father's Day'. You deserve it.
My father has hands of friendship
His words are honest and kind.
He makes me laugh when he tells jokes
His teasing I don’t mind.
My father has hands of gentleness
He makes the best lemonade.
And no matter what the time of day
He'll hold me if I am afraid.
My father has hands of efficiency
Just like an eagles wing.
He can fix my bike or mend my heart
He can fix most anything.
